Our Pediatric Hematology & Oncology (PHO) unit is dedicated to providing exceptional care for newborns to young adults up to 24 years of age who are undergoing treatment for hematologic and oncologic disorders. With 31 beds, our unit is equipped to offer comprehensive and compassionate care tailored to each patient's unique needs.

Schedule:

Part-Time Nights: 6:45 pm - 7:15 am. 12 hours per week

Rotating weekends and holidays

*Set schedules are not available. Unit clinical staffing needs determine schedules.

Position Overview: We are seeking a courteous, personable, and professional Medical Receptionist to join our team. The ideal candidate will be a problem solver with a gift for making things run smoothly and alleviating patient concerns.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Patient Interaction: Greet patients warmly, manage visitor screening, and handle inquiries both in-person and over the phone.

  • Mobile Heartbeat: Utilize Mobile Heartbeat for secure communication with healthcare providers, ensuring timely and efficient patient care coordination.

  • Assigning Mobile Heartbeat Phones: Manage the distribution and assignment of Mobile Heartbeat phones to staff members, ensuring each team member has the necessary equipment for effective communication.

  • Administrative Tasks: Manage daily EHR worklists, patient room tags, patient room door signs, reference material folders, downtime paperwork, etc.

  • Communication: Ability to communicate about different topics, clarify patient needs, report needs to nurses on unit, and provide solutions or alternatives as needed to co-workers and guests.

  • Technology Use: Manage D-term phones for entire department, as well as “Dynamic roles” in MHB. Efficiently responding and transferring phone calls as needed. Able to group text and manage multiples groups at the same time. Comfortable with computers and eStar worklists. Management of intercom and doorbells for unit entry. 

  • Professionalism: Provide excellent customer service to all patients and guests, maintain a positive attitude and professional relationship with co-workers.

 

 

Preferred qualifications:

  • Pediatric experience or acute care experience

  • Prior customer service experience

  • Experience with electronic medical records, EPIC especially

  • Professionalism

  • Exceptional reliability

  • Great communication skills

  • Strong teamwork skills

  • Significant emotional intelligence for the patient population

  • Flexible availability for scheduling

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Processes orders according to guidelines, follows computer downtime procedures.
• Enters and updates information in computer system to assure current information and retrieves data accurately.
• Maintains unit log according to guidelines, makes follow up appointments, and performs discharge related clerical tasks.
• Responds to patient call system and patient requests providing clear, current information to families, visitors and staff.
• Uses telephone, patient call system, beeper/paging system, fax/copy machine, scanning, unit specific monitoring devices, pneumatic tube system and to facilitate flow of communication, equipment and supplies.
• Orders, maintains and uses supplies in a cost effective manner.
